Some of Frida Kahlo's most famous works include this and other self-portraits painted in the late 1930's and early 1940's. The Two Fridas is Kahlo's largest painting and depicts her two minds after a bitter divorce from husband Diego Rivera, also a famous Mexican painter. One Frida clutches a portrait of Rivera yet sits stoically with her heart intact, and one Frida appears to have had her heart ripped out of her. This powerful piece depicts Kahlo's emotional depth and personal strength.

Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee..., 1944 by Salvador Dali
The full title of this stunning piece is Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening is a definitive work of the surrealist master Salvador Dali. According to Dali himself, the aim of this piece was "to express for the first time in images Freud's discovery of... a chance event which causes the sleeper to wake up. Thus, as a bar might fall on the neck of a sleeping person, causing them to wake up and for a long dream to end with the guillotine blade falling on them, the noise of the bee here provokes the sensation of the sting which will awaken Gala." Gala, the woman in the painting, is both named and posed for by Gala Dali, Salvador's wife and muse.
About the Designer: Salvador Dali
Spanish artist Salvador Dalí (1904 – 1989) was a groundbreaking icon of the Surrealist movement and one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Extraordinarily imaginative, he also sculpted, and contributed to fashion, photography and theater. His surreal paintings are characterized by a refined sense of light and space often attributed to his study of Renaissance master works. In contemporary art, Dali is now a master of his own movement.

Three Machines 1963 by Wayne Thiebaud
The mundane becomes beautiful with Wayne Thiebaud who, like Edward Hopper, took elements of daily Americana and captured them for all time with colors that reflect the whimsical pre-nostalgia that comes with the everyday objects we grow up with. Three Machines depicts three gumball machines, each with a variety of colorful candies inside.

Nighthawks by Edward Hopper
One of the most recognizable pieces in American art, Nighthawks is a work that reflects a now-lost America that consisted of countertop dining and finely suited men in fedoras. The strangers that have gathered at the counter in a lonely corner of New York City have long inspired filmmakers, authors, and other artists to imagine how each night hawk happened into this moment in time.

About the Artist: Edward Hopper
"Edward Hopper used light to isolate figures and objects, as in Early Sunday Morning (1930) and Nighthawks (1942). His mature style was already formed in the 1920s; his later development showed constant refinement and an even greater mastery of light."

Ohhh...Alright..., 1964 by Roy Lichtenstein
Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein is revered worldwide for his series of comic-inspired silkscreens, and Ohhh...Alright... was one of his firsts. Based on a panel from the D.C. comic "Secret Hearts," this piece is a perfect example of Lichtenstein's developing style. The strong cartoonish lines of this piece will be picked up perfectly by the black contemporary frame included.
